Weekly class with Thryn
In this foundational class series dancers will learn fundamental Shuffling moves along with Cutting Shapes and a bit of the history behind the style. Born from the underground electronic dance scene in Australia, Shuffle has swept the globe and become especially dominant in the LA social dance scene. Borrowing from Lindy Hop, House, and various Hip Hop styles this high energy, cardio intensive, social dance is rooted in improvisation and great for dancers of any level!
Thryn taught herself to Shuffle during the pandemic as a way to keep her dance practice and movement curiosity alive. She is honored to be able to offer this unique dance form at BRICKHOUSE, the premiere Hip Hop studio in NYC.
Supportive sneakers and clothing you feel GREAT in are required.
Wednesdays, 10-11:45am EST at Gibney Dance Center (280) $22 ONLINE REGISTRATION

Mindfulness, generosity, risk-taking, and musicality are what you will find most present in Thryn Saxon’s contemporary classes. Inspired by an early upbringing in improvisation and creative movement, Thryn encourages intuitive decision-making and deep listening in her class-takers. Valuing research over spectacle, she guides dancers through a series of highly articulate, full-bodied exercises and movement phrases with a central focus on attention to the present moment. Supple floor work, technical attunement, and expansive choreography characterize her classes. Connecting from self to earth, earth to space, and space outward toward community is her studied order of operations. By the end of class, Thryn hopes to have you sweating, smiling, and satisfied after a class full of deep-thinking delight.
Open-level classes are exactly that—classes open to and encouraging of whoever shows up. Modifications and questions are supported and encouraged!
